Occupational Summary

The position of Research Integrity Officer will receive and evaluate allegations of research misconduct, and manage the further inquiry and investigation into these allegations as the specific case requires.

Work Performed

This position will ensure compliance with the PHS regulations for the handling and reporting of research misconduct.

The Research Integrity Officer provides guidance, information and education to researchers, staff, students and administrators regarding the interpretation and implementation of the regulatory requirements related to research misconduct.

The position of Vice Chair will review, require modifications of, and approve all submissions to the DUHS IRB that qualify for expedite review as described by OHRP and DUHS IRB policy.

These submissions include initial reviews, continuing reviews, amendments to existing studies, Adverse Event reports, Protocol Deviation/Violation reports and any other study related documentation.

Reviews will be conducted in accordance with DUHS policy, OHRP and FDA policy, and OCR requirements, in addition to accepted ethical and biomedical standards.

This position will also be responsible for assisting the Chair in running the convened IRB's and will, on occasion, assume all responsibilities of the Chair in such meetings.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a masters or terminal professional degree in biomedical sciences

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience, 3 to 12 months previous experience with IRB review either as a member or staff, and general understanding of federal regulations related to research, including research misconduct.

Skills

A current understanding of the regulatory environment governing the conduct of academic research

Experience in a research environment such as research administration or the conduct of research

The ability to work with diverse constituents

Experience convening and coordinating committees and working groups Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a close attention to details
