Occupational Summary
Plan, develop, coordinate and implement activities associated with special programs within the Office of Continuing Education, to include, but not limited to, the Summer Institute in English Language and U.S. Culture, test preparation programs and humanities outreach programs throughout the state of North Carolina.
Work Performed
Plan, develop, coordinate and implement activities associated with special programs within the Office of Continuing Education; plan and develop curriculum and extra curricular activities that reinforce learning and meet the overall philosophy of the programs.
Prepare grants for funding of Continuing Education programs and humanities outreach programs throughout the state of North Carolina, and for expenses to coordinate and maintain such programs; provide recommendations regarding expenditure of future funds.
Determine fiscal requirements to include return of profit; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds; prepare cost estimates for programs to include housing, food service, transportation, facilities, supplies and marketing costs; supervise all purchases and rentals; manage contractual arrangements.
Prepare and execute a marketing plan for approved educational activities to include development of marketing strategies, analysis of market trends, and design and preparation of brochures and other publicity material; prepare and revise mailing lists and direct the mailing of promotional materials.
Recruit and coordinate instructors/scholars for educational program participation; determine program ideas, themes, sites, dates and frequency; arrange for classroom space.
Design evaluations; monitor program effectiveness through evaluation of content and of instructor/scholar performance.
Hire, train and supervise staff necessary to implement programs to include instructors, resident advisors and teaching assistants.
Maintain liaison with outside educational and professional organizations to ensure that cooperative efforts are enhanced and that all available resources are utilized; manage and maintain database of services and teachers.
Prepare financial and operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires two years experience in program administration, curriculum design, or other related academic setting, or background in an administrative management or business capacity in order to acquire skills necessary to plan, direct and coordinate various activities associated with implementing new educational programs, recruiting instructors and providing administrative support for Continuing Education programs.
