Occupational Summary

Support national and international client relationships for clinical studies across all therapeutic areas to obtain projects/clinical trial investigations. Develop and facilitate the proposal process for specific clients/sponsors including budget and pricing development, proposal writing, contract negotiations, and involvement in client presentations.

Work Performed

Independently support and interact with intermediate size sponsors and multi centered projects.

Develop proposals and client relationships through responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and on going proposal modifications as terms and specifications change.

Formulate independent, straightforward proposals with team members, various Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) functional groups, and external organizations.

Assist with Business Plans/project plans for clients.

Work with Cost Analysis Group to develop a budget and price estimate using standard models.

Facilitate contract communications and interactions among the various parties.

Make recommendations for developing the project plan, roles and responsibilities and scope of work for each project with input from sponsors, project leaders, principal investigators, and DCRI functional groups.

Draft the narrative that ties the project components together and package and present the proposal to the sponsoring agency.

Plan and conduct client visits.

Participate in negotiations as part of the Business Development team interacting with sponsor agreements after obtaining input and approvals as appropriate.

Communicate back to DCRI internal groups the outcome of the negotiations/proposals.

Focus on conveying the expectations set forth for each group i.e. clear details, critical timeframes, and expectations.

Collaborate with the Operations Finance Group to evaluate project performance and to recommend refinements and improvements of all components of each proposal.

Track and report on the status of all proposal components.

Establish and maintain on going client relationships with the various parties to anticipate and resolve potential problems.

Participate in site visits. Identify potential opportunities for additional business with existing clients.

Secure at least two or more projects ranging from $500,000 to $3,500,000.

Support other Business Development Team members and participate in activities as needed.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's Degree in business, science or other related discipline or Associate's Degree and related experience.

Experience

Three Years experience in research and development arena (pharmaceutical company, CRO, etc.) Prefer experience in proposal generation, review, or negotiation. Experience must include at least six proposals to non commercial sponsors valued at $3M+ each in direct costs and in assisting in the preparation of at least 2 multi centered proposals.
