Occupational Summary

Provide administrative and program support to the Pre Major Advising Center by planning, implementing and coordinating programs, events and educational activities and by administering policies and procedures within the Center.

Work Performed

Plan, implement and coordinate programming aspects of seminars, symposiums, lectures and other related campus wide educational events for the Pre Major Advising Center at Duke University.

Coordinate special programs such as faculty recruitment and selection and various outreach activities.

Plan, implement and coordinate promotion and publicity for activities and events of the Center to include press releases, producing announcements, designing and distributing ads, posters and flyers and designing and producing newsletters and/or other publications.

Assist and advise director on budgetary and related problems; prepare for approval by director initial budgetary recommendations by considering past requirements and expenditures and present program plans.

Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and applications to include compilation of data and preparation of expenditures.

Monitor and verify expenditures.

Ensure compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.

Prepare administrative reports for submission to sponsoring agency.

Prepare financial and operational reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires two years experience in program administration or involving academia instruction, grant administration or other related area, in order to acquire skills necessary to provide programming and administrative support to an academic program.
