Occupational Summary

Assist the Dean, Arts and Sciences and the Vice Provost for Computing in addressing the computing needs of faculty, students and staff in Arts and Sciences by developing and implementing methods to assess plans, programs and facilities to meet the computing needs of Arts and Sciences.

Work Performed

Research and develop plans, programs and facilities to meet computing needs in Arts and Sciences to include providing computer workshops and training for faculty and students, providing adequate and accessible computer facilities and developing and improving networking systems used in Arts and Sciences.

Develop long range computing plans for Arts and Sciences to include wiring and networking of all Arts and Sciences units, inclusion of computing technology in the curriculum, provision for sufficient technical staff at the development level, and development and implementation of systems to support departmental administrative functions.

Maintain interface with departmental computer users in the selection and set up of major computing applications appropriate for supporting departmental activities.

Facilitate communication between departmental computer users throughout Arts and Sciences for developing information sources for meeting and assisting individual departmental computing needs.

Develop and identify funding opportunities in support of computing activities in Arts and Sciences.

Encourage and assist Arts and Sciences faculty members and administrators in the development of projects and proposals for computing and in developing and implementing new applications for instructional and administrative computing.

Prepare educational and informational materials for incoming students to Arts and Sciences concerning computing facilities and services provided at Duke University.

Represent Arts and Sciences on various University committees as appropriate.

Coordinate computing initiatives between Arts and Sciences and other areas of Duke University.

Maintain liaison with representatives of other University computer operations to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.

Evaluate new facilities for application at Duke University.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
