Occupational Summary

Direct and coordinate the daily operation of assigned program area(s) to include formulating and administering policies, and planning, developing and promoting programmatic activities to ensure departmental objectives are met.

Work Performed

Direct, plan, organize and implement programs which support departmental and/or divisional objectives; plan and provide for cultural, intellectual and artistic programming supportive of assigned program area(s) and/or constituents.

Advise and counsel students related to program area(s); provide relevant information to faculty, staff, students and others as appropriate.

Develop and implement program protocol, procedures and operating policies.

Establish and maintain liaison with various Duke departments and programs whose interests conjoin with those of the assigned program area(s); work cooperatively with departments in developing and sponsoring activities and events of cultural and intellectual significance to constituents; meet with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and members of the Durham community as appropriate to increase awareness of and promote program and/or program activities and objectives, and enhance services to constituents. Represent the department, division or University on committees and task forces internally, locally, regionally and nationally as appropriate.

Develop and implement fund raising strategies as appropriate.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Prepare financial and operational reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through three years of related experience.
