Occupational Summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director, Duke Dining create and sustain a welcoming, sustainable dynamic dining environment for students, staff, faculty and guest that is innovative and comprehensive. Create, support and carry out the departments sustainability vision and direction to be a national leading dining program aspiring to provide a sustainable, safe, healthy, responsive, and high-quality dining program that is socially, environmentally and economically right for the Duke community.
Work Performed
Develop sustainability strategic and /or operational planning and goal setting through comprehensive operational analysis of existing operations and the identification and analysis of new program opportunities utilizing benchmarking and best practices research, national trends and survey results from NACUFS survey.
Coordinate, identify, integrate and manage all aspects of the sustainability programs. Continually assessing goals, targets, certifications, and practices to stay abreast of current trends that will benefit the satisfaction, safety, health and well being of the Duke community to continually ensure Duke Dining is a national leader in high quality customer services and sustainability programs. Develop and maintain tools, metrics and indicators for assessing progress towards department sustainability goals.
Establish and maintain effective communications strategy, including social media, website, news articles, and a range of other outlets with the objective of raising internal and external awareness of and support for Duke Dining's sustainability efforts and related activities. Act as the department liaison with all meetings/inquiries about sustainability topics to coordinate, enhance and diffuse efforts to include university departments, student organizations/projects, meetings, emails and phone calls.
Act as the department liaison with all incidents that occur that might require an investigation and coordinated responses to departments, vendors, customers and parents.
Monitor compliance with all health department, OSHA, and university policies and procedures. Monitor and oversee that all locations are in compliance and up to date with all sustainability training/policies/procedures. Maintain and administer standards for sustainability to ensure; high quality services, sustainable practices, sanitation and safety, in compliance with appropriate procedures, policies and regulations are in place and being followed/executed daily. Plan and conduct meetings to ensure compliance with department practices, policies and to keep all Duke Dining locations abreast of current changes and standards; Identify and analyze training needs and design and implementation programs to address deficiencies.
Stay abreast of trends and patterns within the industry and make recommendations for changes to the Dining program.
Understand, respect and value the diversity of the workforce, customers and other constituents of Duke Dining.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in environmental or urban planning/science, sustainability, hospitality management or a related field.
Experience
Two years work experience in sustainability or hospitality/quality control management or combination of relevant education and experience.
