Occupational Summary

Coordinate and perform complex tasks in the execution, balancing and completion of the Biweekly, Faculty/Staff, and Noncompensatory payrolls. Complete functions related to the analysis and/or programming of payroll systems and operations to ensure related areas of responsibility are conducted in compliance with established University guidelines and applicable state and federal laws.

Work Performed

Assist with entering parameters to process, balance and complete the Biweekly, Faculty/Staff, Noncompensatory, and Offcycle payrolls in HR/Payroll system. Run associated post transactions that are required as part of the regular, off-cycle, and time & attendance payroll process.

Create and/or update documentation for Payroll processes, applications and system testing procedures as required.

Participate in the testing of in-house applications, configuration, interfaces, upgrades, and system patches etc.

Identify system issues where HR/Payroll tables need to be corrected. Provide information to ASM for making the corrections. Review and approve results before changes are made to production.

Assist in coordination and scheduling of year-end processes within Payroll Services and associated units internal and external to Duke Financial Services.

Importing and exporting files including vendor deduction file loads, 3rd-party remittance reports, annual salary and lump sum payment loads and additional payment spreadsheets within the pay periods.

Process ACH Transmissions and Positive Pay files for regular payrolls as well as direct deposit prenote files for all employees

Maintain and monitor API timekeeping system performance; communicating issues to technical support as a result of applying time & attendance interfaces, participating in rule change testing, upgrades and enhancements, implementing table changes, coordinating permissions and executing biweekly/monthly closing.

Serve as liaison between departments, HR and IT community; develop strong partnership and nurture a positive business relationship with internal and external customers to clearly understand their business processes. Provide functional and educational support regarding payroll processes and systems.

Monitor and respond to emails directed to the Time and Attendance mailbox.

Balance master data transactions processed by Operations staff for the Biweekly, Faculty/Staff and Noncompensatory payrolls. Process data entry edits for the regular payrolls.

Create the employee download from the payroll system and apply these master data changes to the Time and Attendance system based on the schedule for the pay period.

Retrieve and format information from various sources for ad hoc management reports.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or directly related field.

Experience

Work generally requires three years of experience with a strong payroll and/or accounting background.
