Occupational Summary
Provide operational, financial, and organizational direction for Office Products, the Duke Technology Center,and Computer Repair operations within Duke University Stores in the areas of expense and loss control, budget planning, purchasing, supervision, and development of staff and customer relations to ensure efficient and economically sound operations.
Work Performed
Direct the overall activities of the computer operations including Office Products, the Duke Technology Center, and Computer Repair.
Develop policies and procedures to monitor, operate, and oversee Office Products, and the Duke Computer Purchasing Programs.
Work directly with vendor representatives to determine appropriate merchandise/equipment for retail and institutional sales. Negotiate directly with vendor representatives concerning pricing on standard systems and bulk purchases.
Meet regularly with key customers to determine product/inventory needs and to negotiate purchase terms and delivery plans.
Coordinate all matters related to the purchasing, transferring, receiving, storing, and pricing of computers and computer merchandise.
Monitor the procurement of equipment instrumental to the performance of the Office Products and Services operations.
Assist in the formulation of policies and procedures related to marketing, display, and sales of computers and related products, and coordinate special events related to computer operations and Office Products and Services.
Prepare annual budget of anticipated sales, expenses, and inventories; review financial statements regularly to monitor potential problems and trends.
Monitor the development of all contractual agreements and ensure compliance with University purchasing policies on procedures; evaluate pricing structure and maintenance agreements, delivery, and related functions to ensure high-quality vendor performance and cost control.
Make recommendations related to the contraction or expansion of product lines and operations based on sales and trends.
Recommend the procurement of equipment and facilities instrumental to the performance of operations.
Coordinate facility repairs and renovations and make recommendations related to equipment replacement.
Plan work schedules, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space, and facilities for the performance of duties.
Manage periodic physical inventories. Research inventory discrepancies and make recommendations related to shrinkage action plans.
Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, and transfers.
Ensure adequate communication between the various operations through regular staff meetings and individual staff meetings and interactions.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires six-years of experience in computer operations, or related business to acquire the skills necessary to plan, manage and control costs and revenues within a high volume, multifaceted computer operations business.
Ideal candidate will have multi-store experience and extensive knowledge of computer store and computer service center operations. Ideal candidate will have comprehensive understanding of accounting and point- of-sale operations.
