Occupational Summary

Plan and manage a variety of activities involved in the design of Double Take Magazine and Double Take books to include preparation of manufacturing specifications and coordination of editorial production and design, and manufacture of these projects.

Work Performed

Manage and participate in the design of Double Take Magazine and books to include developing design and production procedures, setting manufacturing specifications, and making recommendations to reduce production costs.

Prepare manufacturing cost estimates for all projects in Center for Documentary Studies; manage all negotiations and secure competitive quotations for manufacture of the Magazine; purchase manufacturing services or products.

Work with the Managing Editor to review and manage the general operations of the copy editing and proofreading processes; advise on situations that are unusual or unprecedented.

Assist the Editors in various administrative functions including, but not limited to, recommending policy and procedure, creating effective promotions and increasing circulation of Double Take Magazine, and representing Center for Documentary Studies at specified meetings.

Serve as the Art Director for all projects in the Center for Documentary Studies; supervise design of all exhibits held in the gallery at the Center.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Work closely with the Publishing Director and Business Manger to determine fiscal requirements; prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Hire and supervise all production and design consultants working on behalf of Double Take Magazine.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program

Experience

Work requires four years experience in a creative design services department involved in book, magazine, or catalogue design to become knowledgeable of the accepted practices involved in creative design and publication production.
