Occupational Summary

Organize and direct Project Managers involved in university capital and physical improvement projects of under $2.5 million.

Work Performed

Organize and direct Project Managers involved in university capital and physical improvement projects of under $2.5 million. Project managers of larger projects over $2.5 million will report directly to the Director of Project Management and this position will assist in the support and coordination of those project managers and their projects.

Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Planning and Design assisting with project management of deferred maintenance, renewal projects, utility projects, and capital projects. Coordinate with the Director of Utilities & Engineering, the Director of Maintenance Services and the Director of Grounds and Sanitation Services to provide proper interface between the Office of Project Management and the other Facilities Management Department functions. Interface with Director of Business Services and the Project Accountant staff to provide regular accurate accounting of the project costs and coordination with the Office of Project Management.

Supervise, direct and evaluate project management staff in the department. Set priorities, review progress and communicate that information within the department and through appropriate university channels. Ensure that project management staff follows all appropriate state, local and University rules and regulations as they concern construction projects on campus. Provide technical and administrative support to project management staff in executing effective management practices yielding projects that satisfy scope and program requirements within established budget and schedules. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the Office of Project Management.

Maintain records of work accomplished, including a photographic record of all major work progress. Review and recommend actions on requests for change orders and supplemental professional services. Maintain a record of consultant's, contractor's and vendor's performance. Maintain and update budgets and schedules for projects. Work closely with project accountants to ensure that project financial information and projections are timely and accurate.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management required.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years professional work experience demonstrating increasing responsibilities in design, building renovation or construction management.

Skills

Demonstrated knowledge of design and construction procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of facilities management.
