Occupational Summary

This position will create and manage all simulation programs to support nursing and inter professional education activities. The Assistant Director for the Center for Nursing Discovery will report to the Director and will work consult with and assist nursing faculty and other University faculty/staff as assigned in the preparation of simulation presentations. It will also work collaboratively with a range of offices involved in the creation and implementation of curricular content.

Work Performed

Develop, implement and administer simulation and training programs for undergraduates, graduate and professional students to support nursing and inter professional education activities.

Plan, develop and implement goals and objectives of planned lab activities under the direction of the CND Director and evaluate program objectives on a continual basis.

Identify and implement joint educational simulation and other laboratory learning experiences programs with other Schools and Departments.

This could include courses and tracks in the Medical School as well as workshops and simulation learning experiences for organizations outside of Duke.

Maintain close contact with faculty around the University and Schools to identify their academic interests and teaching commitments and integrate their input into simulation learning programs/activities.

Monitor student progress in related areas and serve as a remediation agent, creating individual Learning Improvement Plans as needed.

Plan and conduct appropriate training sessions for faculty and CND staff including new employee orientation.

Lead/Participate in creating evaluation measures for simulation and other laboratory learning experiences and contribute to scholarship/research related to the modes of instruction utilized in the CND.

Administer and coordinate CND operational activities and make decisions on specific operating problems and issues.

Administer various personnel actions including, but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and other related duties.

Manage Advanced Practice Lab activities in conjunction with course faculty to ensure proper set up, compliance with safety standards and on going surveillance of activity while in progress.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires completion of an accredited Master's of Science in Nursing degree with advanced practice specialization preferred. Licensure as a registered nurse in the state of NC is required.

Experience

Must have 2 years of full time RN experience and preferred experience includes clinical and/or classroom teaching learning activities. Will be required to meet NC BON 318 regulatory requirements within six months of hire.
