Occupational Summary
Manage and coordinate projects involved in the plan, design and aesthetic development of functional interiors for Duke University Medical Center facilities. Monitor incoming interior design projects and generate status and progress reports. Oversee interior design project schedules and budgets.
Work Performed
Manage projects and staff involved in the plan and design of artistic and functional interiors for Duke University Medical Center facilities by analyzing basic requirements and purposes based on client needs and resources.
Oversee status and progress of interior design projects. Review status and progress of interior design projects; monitor budgets and ensure that expenditures are within budgetary constraints. Monitor project schedules.
Supervise staff, assign interior design projects, and monitor quality of work.
Oversee status and progress of interior design projects. Monitor project schedules and budgets. Resolve conflicts with installers, contractual workers, and consultants. Inspect quality of finished product. Sketch plans and prepare specifications for interiors depicting proper arrangement of furniture and accessories and coordinate harmonious color schemes. Estimate cost and amount of materials required, present plans to those concerned for approval, estimate bids, and prepare contracts for interior installation.
Select and prepare purchase requisitions for decorative and functional materials and accessories such as furniture, light fixtures and pictures; ensure selections meet all appropriate codes and governing requirements, ensure proper handling and storage of materials.
Coordinate workers painting walls, laying carpets, installing fixtures and draperies and arranging furniture and accessories in position. Inspect quality of finished product.
Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Prepare reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein..

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design and eligibility for NCIDQ certification.
Experience
Work requires at least five years of related experience in Interior Design, to include at least one year of experience in a commercial setting.
One year of experience as a buyer or purchaser of commercial furnishings may be substituted for one of the two years of required experience.
