Occupational Summary

Direct, plan and coordinate the development of population based community intervention programs to ensure successful achievement of Duke University Health System (DUHS) objectives relative to improving community health status; assist the Vice Chancellor, Health Affairs in the determination and development of long term goals for community programs.

Work Performed

Direct and administer day to day community planning agenda including, but not limited to, the development of population based community interventions; advise senior management of the DUHS of potential and actual impact of efforts with respect to the community, the advancement of internal and external relations and DUHS.

Facilitate an integrative community planning process, coordinating community planning efforts and providing liaison for internal constituents and DUHS corporate support services to aid in the accomplishment of community planning goals and objectives.

Represent DUHS in collaborative community wide public health activities while fostering and developing positive working relationships with community agencies, County of Durham and other health care organizations; serve on various community committees and boards as required to interject DUHS perspective into community based projects.

Facilitate the development of organizational community planning objectives and develop mechanisms for tracking progress; evaluate and recommend partnership and collaborative opportunities to provide community health improvement programs serving the interests of both the community and DUHS.

Develop and implement a community benefit policy/reporting process on behalf of DUHS for managing external requests for funding while providing consistent uniform responses to requests based upon predetermined objectives.

Direct the development of proposals, plans and other business documents germane to the achievement of department objectives; prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Determine fiscal requirements for the office and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, reconcile and verify expenditures of budgeted funds.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, transfers, promotions and vacations schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires advanced communication, analytical and organizational skills necessary to develop community health interventions normally acquired through the completion of a Master's degree in Business, Health Administration, Public Health or a related field.

Experience

Work generally requires five years of progressive business or administrative experience to acquire the knowledge and ability to develop, implement and evaluate population based community planning programs and services.
