Occupational Summary

The Electrical HV System Manager oversees the system and provides leadership and direction to a team of HV technicians, engineer, control technician and planner. They coordinate the design, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical high voltage distribution systems (which includes the Central Generating Systems) and site lighting to insure safe and reliable performance.

Work Performed

Coordinate the design, procurement, and construction of new high voltage distribution systems to meet the needs of new or renovated facilities.

Review HV electrical plans, specifications and equipment for new installations and renovations; inspect projects during and following installation and advise as to compliance with specifications prior to University acceptance.

Assist in the development and updates of the University standards and guidelines for future project planning, design, construction and maintenance activities to insure best practices are employed.

Oversee operation and maintenance of University electrical and high voltage distribution systems to insure that they meet the reliability needs of the University.

Develop and monitor preventative maintenance plans for electrical HV distribution system.

Advise and assist with problems involving electrical engineering and maintenance.

Plan, prepare, and maintain electrical safety programs; carry out regular safety instruction sessions and insure that all facilities and HV service equipment conform to all applicable Federal, State, and local safety regulations.

Manage development, deployment, maintenance and operation of the electrical HV remote control and monitoring system.

Monitor, examine and verify expenditure of funds to established project budgets. Insure expenditures are charged to the project they are intended for.

Determine annual expense budget requirements of the electrical HV distribution system and site lighting.

Prepare reports, analyses, and presentations as needed.

Develop HV team members by providing training and feedback on performance. Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, firing, merit recommendations, and promotions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience

Five years experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience skills.
