Occupational Summary

Design and develop effective online and print documents

Work Performed

Assist in analyzing and interpreting project needs; create, structure, design and publish documents, determining scope and content; gather and verify source data; use and develop appropriate structures for web sites, user manuals, instructional brochures and other vehicles; maintain communication and coordinate with team members throughout project.

Assist in producing documents for a variety of media; develop web pages to introduce new features or services available to the Duke community. Assist in planning and managing projects developed by various OIT teams; coordinate and maintain documentation plan; coordinate and track schedules; serve as liaison with print vendors; represent the writing team at project team meetings. Consult with subject matter experts and/or research subject areas for writing projects; develop content and style based on characteristics of audience and how and why information will be accessed; develop appropriate organizational structure for document or set of documents. Proofread and edit materials, applying commonly recognized editing and publishing standards to discrete elements of a document as well as assessing organization, cohesion and effectiveness of documents; shape content to ensure consistency of publications within the organization. Utilize contemporary practices, trends and technologies in layout, design and production of text and graphics for both print and online media.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in English, technical communication or a related field.

Experience

Work requires the ability to produce documents for a variety of media and in a variety of genres, generally acquired through one year of related experience.
