Occupational Summary

Manage student loan programs throughout Duke University. Manage and maintain all aspects of the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), Federal Perkins Loan and any Duke Institutional loan programs. Insure compliance with all Title IV regulations, develop and maintain policies and procedures, develop training materials, plan and conduct regular training sessions for staff, and serve as liaison between school and loan providers. Oversee staff and work with financial aid officers in the various schools of the university.

Work Performed

Manage all processes for the origination, transmission, changes and disbursement of student loans at Duke University.

Manage the Duke as Lender Program, which provides Stafford Loans to graduate and professional students through the Federal Family Education Loan Program.

Provide financial oversight for all Duke loan funds (including those of the Duke as Lender program), insuring at least a monthly reconciliation of these funds

Manage Duke's relationship with ACS, which services Duke's institutional loan collection needs, including Perkins and Duke Educational Assistance Loans (DEAL)

Represent the needs of the university's student loan programs to the Student Information Service and Systems Office (SISS), which supports the PeopleSoft Student Administration System, the principal internal technology system for managing loan origination and disbursement and develop #in house# expertise in all functional aspects of the PeopleSoft system pertinent to student lending.

Ensure compliance with internal and external accounting and reporting standards for all loan programs.

Report regularly to the Financial Aid Director and ultimately to the Provosts Office and University Controller on the status of lending programs.

Ensure prompt and effective service to students, university wide. Ensure prompt and effective communications and collaborative work arrangements with financial aid officers.

Conduct annual and ad hoc training sessions for Financial Aid staff in all schools as well as staff in Student Lending on loan policies and procedures. Serve as operational liaison with lending agencies who service student loans at Duke University.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communicative, cognitive and analytical skills normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

Five years experience in student lending at a college or university, with at least two years of administrative experience.

Skills

Extensive knowledge of Title IV Financial Aid programs specifically relating to FFELP and Perkins lending

Prefer familiarity with the PeopleSoft Student Administration system, with specific experience with the Financial Aid module

Strong analytic skills, with ability to think and learn independently

Strong accounting skills

Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated interpersonal and team building skills

Familiarity with the student lending landscape, including vendors and software tools
