Occupational Summary
As part of the leadership team the Senior Educational Technologist will analyze and implement strategies to infuse and advance academic programs through the innovative use of technology. Works with faculty to understand the teaching/learning environment, reviews technological options related to teaching needs with faculty, and teaches faculty to use new technology. The Educational Technologist works closely with faculty, the school's academic leadership, information technology leadership, as well as related personnel from other schools and departments within the university.
Work Performed
Provides coordinated leadership to the Schools technology related functions in association with other IT leaders.
Represents the instructional, simulation and teaching needs and interests of faculty.
Collaborates with faculty to identify technologies that will enhance learning in on campus and distance based courses in support of the Schools strategic objective of using technological innovation to advance the academic mission of the School.
Provides consulting, technical assistance and training to faculty working on instructional technology projects, e.g., development and use of digital image collections, interactive tutorials, web resource site development and online assessment tools.
Coordinates, develops and organizes programs; such as workshop, lecture and training series; to inform faculty on trends in instructional technology, methods for effective use of technology in teaching, and use of specialized tools.
Coordinates the process and work of the Schools interdisciplinary team that has as its responsibility the planning and implementation of the Schools strategic objective of using technological innovation to advance the academic mission of the School.
Evaluates and supports academic technology tools such as course management systems, multimedia graphics tools, text analysis programs, visualization software, lab simulation tools and specialized databases.
Provides advanced level support for Blackboard course management system. Develops web based information resources which enable faculty and students to use instructional technology successfully.
Develops relationships with Library staff, academic departments and with technology service providers throughout the University to explore new hardware and software tools, obtain resources, and advocate needs that impact faculty and student use of academic technology.
Works with Library staff and other parts of the university to integrate academic technology tools into existing computing infrastructure or to identify needed upgrades to facilities and systems.
Reviews professional literature; networks with instructional technology professionals outside the University; and participates in activities to stay informed about trends in instructional technology in specific disciplines and across academia.
May supervise, make work assignments, and review the work of lower level employees.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree (advanced degree strongly preferred) in educational or instructional technology or a directly related field.
Experience
At least five years experience in instructional technology supporting faculty within a university environment required. Experience identifying pedagogical needs and integrating technological solutions required. Experience developing and delivering technical training to an audience with varying levels of technical understanding required.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Skills
Knowledge of widely used hardware, software, applications, resources and techniques within an academic environment; experience with Web authoring tools, Web based collaboration environments, and presentation software.
Experience with course management systems required; familiarity with Blackboard preferred.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete instructional technology projects, to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks and use good judgment in providing services based on goals.
Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within the academic community.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
