Occupational Summary

The National Director is the primary external face of Family Connects International (FCI). Responsible for the national relationships between Family Connects and partners in other intervention programs, national organizations, and in coordination with the Director of Policy and Engagement, governmental entities. Works with the Founder and Principal Investigator of Family Connects to secure robust philanthropic support in order to advance the mission of the organization in discovering ways to lower the child abuse rate and improve population well-being among young children in communities. As a member of the leadership team, the National Director is responsible for implementing the overall goals and objectives of Family Connects International.

Work Performed

Grow the visibility of FCI as an expert resource on early childhood systems and health care innovation to grow engagement opportunities for consultation, dissemination and innovation.

Regularly engage strategic stakeholders, including fellow evidence based programs and FCI implementation sites, through letters, calls and visits. Lead on matters related to community relations, philanthropic development, and other efforts to improve awareness and support of FCI.

Keep abreast of emerging early childhood health policy nationally and continuously assess early childhood policy issues.

In coordination with the Director of Policy and Engagement, closely work with government leaders, private insurers, Medicaid administrators, third party administrators, home visiting program leaders, and other key stakeholders that support the mission of FCI.

Represent Family Connects in the Alliance Home Visiting Collaborative and work with other national directors from evidence based-models on providing content expertise on system building and home visiting. Develop partnerships with other evidence based programs, models, or systems that either serve as a collaborator with FCI or could in the future.

Respond to requests by local and state communities to provide general technical assistance to analyze their needs, their capacity to deliver early childhood interventions, and their funding streams to improve their early childhood system of care. The Director will not provide specific technical assistance to implement any particular intervention program.

Supervise the Director of Research Development, including directing personnel actions such as performance appraisals and promotions, among others.

Implement the Family Connects Strategic Plan which aims to improve family health and well-being and reduce the incidence of child maltreatment in communities across the country, and revise it as required.

Assist the Founder of FCI in securing philanthropic support for research, education, and advocacy. This includes identifying, initiating, and cultivating relationships with potential funders of FCI's research, policy engagement, and implementation activities.

Oversee the creation of an integrated research development strategy that incorporates foundation, corporate, and government research support and aligns with the overall goals and strategic direction of Family Connects. Coordinate efforts with the Sanford School of Public Policy Development Office and Duke University's Foundation Relations.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Master's degree or equivalent experience is required.

Experience

Work requires 10 years of experience in early childhood development research and policy, with grant formulation experience.
