Occupational Summary

Member of the leadership team for the Office of Public Affairs and Government Relations. Has principal responsibility for overseeing all finance, HR, space and technology operations, coordination among teams. Serves as chief of staff to the vice president for public affairs and government relations, and manages special projects.

Work Performed

Manage HR operations and personnel activities, including oversight of employee recruitment, hiring, orientation, benefits, compensation, training and professional development, payroll processing, recognition, performance evaluations, etc. Represent PAGR in HR Forum and related committees.

Prepare, manage and monitor PAGR budget and business activities, including accounts payable, purchasing, employee travel and reimbursements, compliance, contracts and service agreements. Represent PAGR in CAMC financial committees.

Design and oversee effective and efficient administrative processes; and develop solutions to operational and policy issues.

As Chief of Staff, provides strategic planning to the VP and facilitates coordination among the teams: university communications, media and public affairs, digital and brand strategy, state relations, and federal relations. Assist with PAGR priorities as needed.

Serve on university committees and task forces as requested by the VP.

Oversee Event Calendar, the university-wide calendar, online maps, and related initiatives.

Initiate and independently manage special projects and cross-functional teams.

Monitor and manage PAGR space, including on- and off-campus locations, and Duke in DC.

Manage PAGR technology, including computers, networking, cell phones, photo, video and audio production equipment and facilities.

Supervise departmental administrative staff.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress and making recommendations.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

Work requires five years of progressive experience in program management and administration.
