Occupational Summary
The Director of Quad Advising in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences provides strategic and operational leadership for academic advising across the first and second years. Reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Education, the Director oversees Trinitys quad-based advising model, supervising a team of professional advisors and coordinating the training. The Director also works closely with the Lead Academic Dean and campus partners to align advising with institutional priorities and ensure equitable, developmental support for all students. This position holds responsibility for assessment, communication, and continuous improvement of the advising system and maintains a small advising caseload.
Work Performed
Strategic Planning and Leadership
Develop and implement goals, policies, and priorities for advising in alignment with Trinity and institutional priorities.
Lead strategic efforts to integrate academic advising with broader student success initiatives, including transition support, equity efforts, and co-curricular engagement.
Represent the advising function on university-wide committees and initiatives.
Coordinate with the Lead Academic Dean and TCUE leadership on student policies, referrals, and academic procedures.
Supervision and Team Management
Supervise the Associate Director of Advising, all Senior Quad Advisors, and indirectly the full team of Quad Advisors.
Provide leadership and guidance for recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive work environment that supports innovation and staff retention.
Convene regular staff meetings and individual check-ins to support continuous team development.
Advising Services and Program Oversight
Oversee delivery of advising services to all first- and second-year Trinity students, as well as to Pratt students intending to transfer to Trinity.
Provide strategic direction for summer advising, convocation, and orientation programming.
Establish protocols for early intervention, policy interpretation, and student referrals.
Maintain a personal advising caseload to remain grounded in the student experience.
Lead the development of advising programming in quad communities, including office hours, workshops, and academic support events.
Advisor Engagement
With the Assistant Director, coordinate the training and ongoing support of all Senior Quad Advisors and Quad advisors.
Develop communication strategies to keep advisors informed of deadlines, policies, and opportunities.
Collaborate with departments and DUSs to align advising with curricular planning and major exploration.
Assessment, Reporting, and Communications
Direct assessment of advising practices using qualitative and quantitative data.
Lead annual reporting on advising outcomes and initiatives. Use student data to evaluate equity in advising and develop evidence- based improvements.
Oversee content and updates for the advising website and internal documentation.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Masters degree required; PhD preferred.
Experience
Minimum 7 years of experience in academic advising, program management, or student-facing higher education roles, with demonstrated success in staff supervision, student support, and policy implementation.
