Occupational Summary

Reporting directly to the Sr. Manager, Technical Education and Documentation, the IT Technical Writer III - Training and Documentation position is part of a team of technical trainers/writers in the IT group that provides enterprise-wide training and in-depth support on DCRI computer policies and standard software/hardware.

Work Performed

As a senior writer, facilitate team/project meetings and lead changes in documentation processes

Lead technical documentation projects

Document how to use DCRI standard software/hardware, as well as related business processes/policies

Design and develop computer-based training and technical presentations

Create and revise IT standard operating procedures (SOPs) and supporting documents

Design, develop, and maintain IT sites on the DCRI Intranet

Write and edit technical communications

Create and maintain document templates and forms

Facilitate review, approval, and release of documentation deliverables

Review documentation deliverables developed by other team members

Maintain IT Documentation Library and check out items to IT personnel

Support internal and external audits of IT procedures

Provide editorial services to IT personnel

Provide technical support on documentation tools to DCRI personnel

Work with team to establish documentation tools, processes, and promotional strategies

Work on special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Technical Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, technical training, and experience.

Experience

Eight years or more experience in each of the following areas, preferably in an academic or corporate IT setting:

Designing and developing technical documentation, flowcharts, data entry forms, and document templates

Designing and developing instructional materials or computer-based training

Designing and developing websites or web content

Using Microsoft Office (including developing templates, forms, and macros in Word and flowcharts in Visio) and Adobe products

Skills

Strong skills in the following areas: interpersonal, customer service, instructional/information design, technical writing/editing, graphics/layout, project management, analysis/problem solving, and regulatory compliance
