Occupational Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring the Duke University Police accreditation program independently and with minimal supervision, as well as assisting and supporting other department functions; coordinating and prioritizing tasks and projects simultaneously; attaining and maintaining expertise in areas of responsibility; possessing an understanding of the agency's organization and systems; and preparing and presenting reports verbally and in writing.

Work Performed

Serve as the Department's authority and primary contact for the accreditation program

Oversees the expenditure of funds allocated to areas of responsibility

Maintain fluency in CALEA standards and processes

Draft reports and written directives that achieve accreditation objectives

Supervise full time and temporary employees assigned to those areas that draft, distribute and organize written directives and proofs of compliance with those directives and commission standards

Maintain files containing proofs of compliance

Train all Departmental members in the Accreditation process and requirements

Represent the Chief of Police at state and national commission conferences

Coordinate any on-site assessments

Use office and proprietary software for research, data management, word processing, reports and communication

Work collaboratively to ensure appropriate input by department members in policy development and review

Manage project assignments from the command staff as needed

Research and understand best practices in police, security and communications

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a four year degree in Public Administration (or relevant Social Science).

Experience

At least two years experience and direct involvement in a successful CALEA accreditation, including on-site assessment process.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
