Occupational Summary

Plan, manage and coordinate the activities of the Visual Resources Section of the Department of Art and Art History; provide leadership for the design, development, acquisition and application of visual resource and information access technologies.

Work Performed

Plan, manage and coordinate the activities of the Visual Resources Section of the Department of Art and Art History; serve as central resource person to faculty and students for the use of the image collection.

Direct Section staff in developing, acquiring and applying visual resource and information access technologies; secure grant funding for image collection development.

Develop and implement a coherent, strategic plan for the phased migration of the Department's analog slide collection to digital format; concurrently maintain accessibility of the collection to appropriate users.

In consultation with the Chair of the Department of Art and Art History, formulate, document, explain and interpret policies and procedures for the Visual Resources Section.

Determine standards for image production quality; coordinate quality control in production, maintenance and conservation of digital images. Coordinate purchasing of equipment and supplies for Section activities; maintain liaison with vendors and service representatives to assure maintenance of acceptable production rates and quality levels.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, training, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules; coordinate work schedules and duty assignments for Visual Resources Section staff.

Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Assist in determining the Visual Resource Section allocated budget; manage the budget; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures. Participate in professional seminars and meetings to publicize and enhance the Section's operational activities, and to stay abreast of technological advances in image storage and information access.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Master's degree with major emphasis in art history, architecture, design, fine arts, and/or library sciences (ALA accredited MLS).

Experience

Work generally requires four years progressive experience in the administration and management of a visual resource collection.
