Occupational Summary

Plan, organize and execute a comprehensive fund raising solicitation program with corporations, foundations and individuals for the Duke-North Carolina National Science Foundation/Engineering Research Center (NSF/ERC); promote and publicize NSF/ERC activities.

Work Performed

Develop and implement a program of identification, cultivation and solicita-tion of gift prospects for the NSF/ERC to include individuals, foundations and corporations such as medical device and other health care-related industries to support program activities and capital projects. Maintain liaison with University Development and the Director of External Affairs, School of Engineering to coordinate NSF/ERC fund raising activities.

Maintain and develop procedures in coordination with and consistent with established recording procedures of the Office of Gift Records to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow-up on all private gifts to the NSF/ERC.

Represent the NSF/ERC before a variety of individuals and groups such as professional engineering and medical societies, the medical device industry, universities, high schools and civic clubs to publicize and promote NSF/ERC activities; maintain liaison with University Public Relations Office and other appropriate new sources to publicize NSF/ERC activities.

Assist the Center's Director in the development and implementation of special projects including, but not limited to, strategic planning and resource allo-cation; provide support to the NSF/ERC Industrial Advisory Council as needed.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appro-priate recommendations or conclusions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
