Occupational Summary

Provide leadership to assigned career center teams with responsibility for major areas such as employer relations and experiential learning, and alumni relations and services to students. Provide institutional expertise within assigned program areas. Assess constituent needs and interests and develop programs that provide a bridge between academic interests and professional goals. In conjunction with the Director, provide expertise and direction for the Center's outreach efforts involving alumni, employers and other external constituents and coordinate the delivery of high quality, consistent information to students, employers and alumni. Serve as staff co-leader in the absence of the Director.

Work Performed

Design, implement and assess an integrated outreach effort that targets appropriate constituencies; work with staff and students to identify, cultivate and track strategic relationships with employers, student organizations, faculty and alumni; serve as liaison to a segment of the academic community, providing information about the pursuits of students in their disciplines, workplace trends, market changes and planned initiatives.

Counsel students individually and in groups on career assessment, career decision-making, and job search strategies; conduct and facilitate workshops that cover all facets of the career development process in order to teach career goals; plan programs that incorporate employers or alumni in school initiatives. Represent the school in local and national professional associations by serving on committees and presenting at conferences; stay current with industry standards and contribute to the knowledge of the profession; serve as staff co-leader in absence of the Director.

Establish and maintain liaison with representatives from corporations, agencies and organizations to promote and coordinate recruiting visits; arrange and schedule interviews between representatives and applicants; discuss personnel needs and career opportunities with employer representatives.

Develop and maintain a resource library of available general career opportunities as well as specific opportunities with major companies for utilization by students, alumni and others.

Maintain records of placement activities and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Recommend fiscal requirements for various programs including periodicals and other career library materials, career testing materials and travel needs; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Supervise and coordinate the work of designated employees reviewing completed work for adherence to instructions or correctness.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a master's degree in counseling, student personnel administration or a related field.

Experience

Work requires two years of experience in a college or university career services office or directly related experience.
