Occupational Summary

The Center for Community and Population Health Improvement (CCPHI) is focused on developing partnerships with local and regional health leaders to improve health equity and eliminate health disparities. CCPHI is working with others at Duke Health and in the local community to advance a new "Healthy Durham 2020" initiative. This program recognizes the longstanding dedication and continued hard work of Durham's community members, the Partnership for a Healthy Durham and the multiple sectors of health, education, faith, philanthropy, non-profit, advocacy, business and government to build a Culture of Health. Healthy Durham 2020 seeks to create a facilitative platform that is inclusive of and builds upon this extensive work and impact to create even greater synergies to support collective action, policy advocacy, and capacity building to make sustained improvements in the health of the entire community. The individual in this position will provide strategic, administrative, and operational support for the Healthy Durham Initiative and oversee the successful development and execution of the Healthy Durham 2020 initiative.

Another signature program of the CCPHI is "The Mapping Project." There are a substantial number of faculty and staff at Duke working with the local and regional community on initiatives to improve health. The Mapping Project is intended to synthesize these initiatives to create a comprehensive picture (landscape map) of the activities. This program will involve substantial data gathering from multiple sources, both internal and external to Duke. In addition to gathering data, this person will be responsible for working with quantitative scientists to develop social networking maps that provide visualization of where the community-engaged activities are occurring and where there may be gaps.

Work Performed

Strategic Management Oversee operational and administrative planning of the Healthy Durham 2020 and Mapping Projects.

Identify and support the development of applications, proposals, and plans for multi-sector engaged grants and program opportunities.

Oversee the creation of Requests for Proposals, a system for reviewing applications, identification of review panels, and process for monitoring progress and spending.

Develop and convene a multi-sector shared governance for Healthy Durham 2020 activities.

Serve as the primary lead and point of contact for Healthy Durham 2020 and Mapping projects, ensuring timely progress and deliverables.

Operational Management Manage execution of program plans, including engaging multi-sector community partners, creating teams, and driving plans forward.

Develop and monitor budgets, timelines, deliverables, and metrics for programs.

Prepare and provide regular reports on activities to DUHS and CCPHI senior leadership.

Identify barriers and challenges to project implementation and success, and bring to the attention of the leadership team.

Oversee coordination of all meetings, conferences, and events related to programs.

Develop agendas, coordinate speakers, prepare presentations, and oversee logistics.

Develop systems for bi-directional communication among all stakeholders.

Participate in, and contribute to other CCPHI and CTSI projects, as necessary.

Staff Management Oversee direct reports and other project team members to ensure successful execution of projects

Provide mentoring, training, and career development opportunities to staff.

Provide corrective action supervision, as necessary.

Provide ongoing feedback on performance to staff members, including an annual performance appraisal and salary recommendations.

Perform all HR functions related to managing direct reports.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

A Master degree in public health, nursing, social work, public policy, health care management, health education or related field. Strongly prefer candidates who are doctoral prepared.

Experience

Eight years of progressively responsible experience in a project management, programmatic, administrative or operational capacity involving health care delivery, health care quality improvement, public health, health services research or related field.

Skills

Strongly prefer candidates with experience involving community-based settings.

Strong project management, administrative, planning, prioritization and organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

Proven track record in building credibility and strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders including faculty members/investigators, technical/professional staff and community groups.

Strong analytical and writing skills.

Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Experience in budget preparation and monitoring of financial statements. Ability to manage competing and changing priorities and multiple tasks under inflexible timelines.

Ability to represent Duke Health, managing and reducing risk to the institution.

Outstanding ability to Interface with high-level, high visibility stakeholders.

Clear ability to communicate with external and internal executives.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in decisions.

Ability to Interface effectively with the Duke Health leadership.

Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting standards and monitoring performance.

Skills using logic, critical thinking, and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.

Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Outstanding ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders within and outside of the University.

Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.
