Occupational Summary
Assist in directing, planning, researching, and coordinating special projects within the Duke University Plant Accounting department. Responsible for the management of day to day operations and performing a variety of duties in support of the Director of Plant Accounting including, but not limited to, coordination and review of capital equipment inventories and capital equipment tagging, accounting for capital expenses on construction projects, customization and configuration of systems supporting the Plant Accounting department
Work Performed
Prepare complex reports and proposals involving compilation, analysis and evaluation of data.
Set priorities, goals, and guidelines in order to meet departmental objectives.
Review reports and monitor progress and bring errors, omissions or problems to the attention of the Director. Provide support to the Director the preparation of year end closing reports on Capital Asset Accounts to reconcile with the General Ledger to provide information for the annual University Financial Report. Prepare, schedule and conduct classes for University and Health System end users of Asset Management module and space management web tool (STAR).
Assist in other training as needed for the Research Costing Compliance program and other initiatives of the Financial Services Division.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures for equipment and space audits and inventories.
Compose letters and statements independently requiring interpretation and application of departmental policies, rules and regulations. Assist the Director in the administration of various personnel functions including but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a bachelor's degree, in Accounting, Economics or a related business field. CPA, preferred.
Experience
Work requires the ability to review, analyze and recommend varied accounting systems and procedures, generally acquired through six years of progressive experience working with accounting systems.
