Occupational Summary

Responsible for overseeing the comprehensive real estate services for Duke University, including major campus development projects, capital and financial planning, purchasing land, leases, Duke Forest, and the Washington Duke Inn. Will develop the overall real estate strategy for Duke University.

Work Performed

Develop the strategy for real estate, major construction projects and capital assets throughout the university.

Manage real estate staff involved in the coordination of leases and building projects. Oversee building projects. Establish and maintain relationships with outside building contractors. Measure project progress against building plan. Ensure timely and quality development.

Purchase real estate. Negotiate and prepare contracts for land to be used by the university.

Work with the Finance office to determine and monitor budgets for major projects. Work with University Architect in the development of major projects.

Through journals, contacts and professional organizations, stay abreast of issues, laws and trends in the real estate industry.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Master's degree in business administration, real estate, or related field. Knowledge of architecture preferred.

Experience

Requires over eight years experience in real estate and financial analysis; excellent interpersonal, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. Experience in major university setting preferred.
