Occupational Summary

Provide strategic direction, leadership, and operations management of graduate education in the Pratt School of Engineering in conjunction with the academic programs and faculty leadership on continued improvements to enhance the student, academic, and enrollment services for Pratt graduate programs. Areas include program development, student support, career services, professional development, recruiting, marketing, admissions operations, intercultural cultural and language training, and co-curricular activities focusing primarily on masters programs.

This position requires demonstrated excellence in consensus building and working collaboratively with teams of faculty and staff. Specific skills and experience include: strategic planning and priority setting across multiple programs; program assessment and data-driven decision making; ability to develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a complex academic landscape; excellent organizational skills; ability to allocate staff resources to multiple projects in a dynamic and efficient manner; and active management of performance of staff members, enabling performance excellence.

Work Performed

Collaborate with School and department leaders, or their designees, to develop and clarify guiding principles, strategies, policies, and operating procedures for programs managed by both the Graduate School and Pratt School of Engineering.

Develop priorities, plans, and service delivery approaches based on identified and anticipated needs, program impact, and Pratt resources.

Understand and communicate significant trends in graduate education that will impact recruitment, programs, and service delivery strategies.

Oversee plans, processes, operations and controls to meet strategic priorities, including staffing, space, and budgetary requirements. Set yearly operational goals for each Graduate Student Programs and Services (GSPS) unit.

Supervise personnel, manage all daily operations, and coordinate work of designated direct reports with responsibility for all personnel matters including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, merit recommendations, disciplinary actions, terminations, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules. Ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing as well as space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Manage personnel activities to meet University and departmental objectives in training, equal pay, equal employment as well as wage and salary administration, performance management, standards of conduct, etc. Determine education and training needs of staff to meet identified needs. Provide feedback to Departmental Business Managers or other supervisors, as needed, on the performance of their staff members responsible for graduate student and program support.

Manage resource allocation across multiple priorities of Pratt graduate programs. Provide general oversight of graduate student programs and assist the School in building capacity for the continued expansion of Pratt graduate programs.

Determine fiscal requirements, make projections, and prepare annual program as well as, with unit supervisors, individual project budgets; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds; prepare financial statements reflecting status of programs and activities; and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

Prepare reports and analyses to include financial reports, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Attend meetings with School and department leaders, or their designees, and facilitate meetings with staff that support graduate programs.

Represent Pratt graduate programs in meetings, conferences, and other matters of an administrative nature.

In collaboration with program leadership, develop assessment strategies and implement assessment plans to determine the efficacy of graduate programs and promote data-driven decision making. Plans will include question identification, data collection plans and systems, data analysis, and outcomes communication.

Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to determine Pratt-wide and unit-specific priorities.

Assess and implement technology and systems, as appropriate, to make assessment as automated and efficient as possible.

Manage projects to enhance the efficiency of data reporting and analysis, including the creation of master documents to report official student lists and numbers.

Collaborate with other assessment offices across the university and within Pratt to determine the best way to assess and distribute information regarding the graduate programs.

Promote and track processes that respond to assessment data and promote a culture of assessment and continuous improvement in Pratt graduate programs.

Provide variance analyses when targets are exceeded or not met, and suggests new strategies based on data analysis.

Supervise preparation and prepare reports and assessments of graduate programs for internal (e.g., enrollment management) and external (e.g. SACS) purposes.

Collaborate with marketing and communications team to develop and implement new program marketing and student recruitment strategies.

Create and implement communication plans to convey assessment results and progress toward strategic priorities.

Review Pratt and departmental websites, published materials including marketing and recruitment documents, and University bulletins to ensure information regarding graduate student academic requirements, policies and procedures, etc. are being kept current and accurate.

Provide accurate information on curriculum, policies, and regulations to students, academic advisors, staff, and faculty.

Deliver presentations to School and department leaders and other internal and external audiences.

Perform other related duties as needed to accomplish the goals of the Pratt Engineering graduate programs.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

A master's degree is generally required in higher education or a related field that will serve to enhance the stature and academic success of all university students. PhD in related discipline preferred.

Experience

A minimum of seven years of experience in a related area or field. A minimum of five years of experience as a direct supervisor of a cross- functional team.

Management of multiple projects. Some budgeting and resource allocation experience. Managing external clients and customers both inside and outside of an organizational unit.
