Occupational Summary

The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is a 12-month position and reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs, Trinity College (DAA-TC). The primary focus for this position is to strategically plan and manage the academic initiatives and programs for Trinity College. The candidate ensures that the needs and priorities of the Academic Affairs Office are executed with excellence.

Work Performed

Champions the Dean's strategic initiatives by providing strategic advice, planning, research, coordination.

Collaborates with the Dean and senior leaders to implement and promote high priority college initiatives by driving their development and communication, working closely with Duke Communication leaders to ensure strategies are well communicated and translated into actionable and quantitative plans for various stakeholders.

Attends key meetings with the Dean and, in appropriate cases, acts as the Dean's representative.

Coordinates development of a wide range of materials to support the Dean, including advisory board presentations, as well as other internal and external presentations.

Liaises with all levels of administration and faculty to coordinate and resolve academic and administrative issues.

Curriculum, instruction, and course related support: composes memos, letters and statements that require interpretation and application of University policies, Trinity requirements, and departmental major requirements.

Works closely with the Dean to ensure that programmatic efforts reflect excellence and maintain momentum.

Tracks, monitors, and follows the progress of projects and action items Maintains a high standard of confidentiality and discretion as adviser to the Dean.

Leads planning and development of curricular strategies that advance the mission of Trinity College. Monitors the deployment of said strategies. Works closely with the Dean to ensure that programmatic efforts reflect excellence and maintain momentum.

Partners with the Executive Director of Communications and the Administrative Assistant to manage accuracy of curricular content on the Trinity College websites.

Leads teams/committees through various projects related to curriculum and instruction across the DAA Office, assigns tasks associated with projects, and follows the progress of projects to ensure completion.

Communicates on behalf of the Dean and Trinity College as needed. Analyzes reports and advises the Dean of significant items, trends, errors, or omissions.

Assists the Dean with strategic writing and research for Trinity College regarding daily activities, special projects, development efforts, and institutional planning.

Composes written communications that require interpretation and application of Trinity curricular requirements.

Spearheads writing projects on behalf of the Dean, including reports for Duke entities, talking points for meetings, and speeches to various audiences.

Prepares data and make presentations reflecting the position of the DAA Office.

Maintains a high standard of confidentiality and discretion as advisor to the Dean.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Advanced degree preferred in leadership and organizational management and/or education.

Experience

Needs minimum 7 years of university experience, understanding of undergraduate culture, liberal arts curriculum, and curricular development. Must possess experience working with diverse/underrepresented/marginalized student groups. Must possess strongunderstanding of academic departments/offices on campus and co- curricular opportunities. Must Possesses experience successfully leading teams and developing relationships with community organizations and different campus entities. Possesses University level experience creating, coordinating, and implementing innovative curricular and/or co-curricular programming for students. Must possess knowledge of current trends in pedagogy and curriculum. Teaching experience is preferred. Knowledge of Duke practices, policies, and financial systems is preferred.
