Occupational Summary
Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of international programs and services in support of the strategic plan for Student Affairs and global mission of the University. Oversees operations of the International House, serves as a liaison to Visa Services and Duke Kushan University, and supports undocumented students. Serves as a lead representative for the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life in University-wide efforts to provide innovative support and outreach for international and undocumented students and to consider international matters as they impact all Duke undergraduate and graduate/professional students.
Work Performed
Provide leadership for the development, implementation and assessment of activities, programs, trainings, and support services that significantly enhance the undergraduate and graduate/professional international student experiences with regard to diverse cultures, identities and perspectives for students and community members. Establish overall direction and plans for social, cultural, educational and leadership programs in the International House as well as advising for Durham-based supports for Duke Kushan University students.
Represents Student Affairs and student-facing interests in collaborative partnerships with deans, directors, department heads, faculty, administrators, and staff, including through service on campus-wide committees and global initiatives such as Duke Kunshan University Program Office, Global Education, Global Travel Advisory Committee, Alumni Affairs, University Development, and Council on Civic Engagement.
Serve as a liaison to Duke's Visa Services to ensure a consistent student experience and comprehensive communication and support about changes in legislation, travel advisories, and shifts in visa requirements.
Serve as a member of the Campus Life Leadership team. Support Campus Life directors and others in the development of cross-department projects, programs, and services that support the Division's vision and mission.
Provide individual or group counseling related to personal, academic, and social issues related to international and undocumented students.
Stay current with trends, developments and best practices in social justice education, intercultural training, international education, and research. Monitor advances in the field to integrate information, knowledge, and technology tools into department practices and procedures. Represent the University and Student Affairs at professional meetings and conferences.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or other relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
Experience
Minimum eight years of progressively responsible experience in international education and global campuses.
