Occupational Summary

Perform artistic, creative and skilled photographic work to capture and reproduce photographic images reflecting the full range of activities at Duke University. Assist in marketing efforts to promote photographic services throughout the University and for use by the news media.

Work Performed

Capture and reproduce photographic images representing the full range of activities occurring on Duke University campus, utilizing creative and artistic skill.

Provide quality photographic services to the University community, news media and other organizations with interest in activities of the University and its faculty, staff and students; work with other communications offices as appropriate to help meet their needs for photographic support of news releases and other informational materials.

Assist internal and external clients with photographic needs for use in books, magazines, brochures, newsletters and other publications to include identifying and defining needs, recommending photographic techniques and approaches to help communicate intended message and create desired effect, planning photo sessions, and advising on other professional and artistic subjects related to uses and applications of photography; counsel clients on photographic capabilities; inform clients of new capabilities and advise as to possible applications.

Assist in the development and implementation of broad-based marketing efforts to promote photographic services to schools and departments throughout the University and to distribute photographic images of the University for use by the news media; participate in marketing University Photography's services to potential clients for use in internal and external books, magazines, brochures, directories, guides, calendars and other publications; assist in strategic planning as appropriate.

Maintain extensive and current library of quality photographic images repre-senting all aspects of life on Duke University campus. Disseminate photographs to national media as directed.

Develop film and make prints of various sizes for newspapers, brochures, magazines and for use by University officials; mix various chemicals for processing film.

Maintain records for billing for photographic services rendered.

Provide technical assistance and serve as resource to other University Photog-raphy employees on all aspects of photography and film processing.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires considerable knowledge of photographic techniques, materials, processes and equipment generally obtained through two years of post-secondary training in photography.

Experience

Work generally requires three years of photography experience to become proficient in performing a variety of creative, artistic and skilled photographic and film processing activities.
