Occupational Summary

Responsible for performing financial analysis and compiling plan information to be used in the strategic planning, design and management of Duke's employee benefits programs.

Work Performed

Support the Financial Performance & Quality Assurance Manager and Plan Managers by collecting, organizing, analyzing and reporting plan related data, such as budgets, finances, utilization, demographics, performance, etc.

Provide plan data / information support, creating reports that are concise, timely, accurate and applicable.

Analyze plan activity and formulate findings / recommendations.

Research benefits information needs and other special requests (e.g., special studies requested by Duke Executives, etc.)

Assist with the evaluation of vendors against performance guarantees and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Participate in vendor selections preparing requests for proposal (RFP) / information (RFI), analyzing responses, evaluating vendor capabilities, conducting due diligence and assisting in the contract process

Provide technological support to the Benefits department as directed by the Financial Performance & Quality Assurance Manager. Provide liaison service to HRIC and other university departments as necessary.

Support the interaction with carriers, vendors and consultants on matters such as contracts, coverage and renewals

Participate in the resolution of problems and the creation of corrective action plans related to services provided by vendors

Assist the Managers during special projects, including the open enrollment process, with informational requirements including data extracting, reviewing and cleansing

Keep current on employee benefits, plan, HR and other industry issues that may impact data analysis, vendor or plan performance

Serve as lead analyst for subordinate staff

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

B.A. / B.S. from an accredited institution preferably in Finance or Business Administration or a related field

Practical and extensive plan performance and financial analysis experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

Experience

Three years of experience in financial analysis, information gathering and reporting.

Proficient in software and financial analysis tools and procedures.

Skills

Proficient benefits plan technical, tax and regulatory knowledge (e.g., ERISA, FMLA, etc.)

Exposure to vendor management programs, vendor performance monitoring and corrective action planning

Preparation and analysis of benefits plan data to determine program effectiveness
