Occupational Summary
Direct programs and activities involved in Academic Advising.
Work Performed
Administers a program of academic advising and related counseling services that focuses on individual students. In conjunction with faculty and administrators identify students in need of such counseling.
Provide programs offering guidance on course selection, effective study habits, time management, test-taking skills, and stress management. Provide a program of academic advising and related counseling services to the community in general.
Handle requests for leaves of absence based on academic or personal reasons and assist in the handling of student disciplinary matters. Administer the intake process for student requests for waivers of School rules and policies, including requests to visit at other schools.
Act as a resource to faculty and deans working with students with special circumstances that require assistance and/or referrals to other offices or services, such as the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services.
Maintain the components of the School Web site including those relating to course selection and degree requirements.
Manage joint-degree programs; provide academic advising to all joint- degree students; maintain collaborative relationships with outside departments and joint-degree host schools to enhance the interdisciplinary nature of the degree programs.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills, normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program. Masters or advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience
Three to five years of applicable experience.

Highly effective interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral; Ability to listen effectively and provide effective advice and direction to individuals with academic or personal problems; Project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced environment; Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment and discretion; Demonstrated ability and commitment to understanding and implementing complex University/School academic requirements, policies and procedures; Demonstrated ability to work and communicate well with faculty, students, alumni, Administration and university officials.
