Occupational Summary

This position will plan and manage local, national and international sponsored events and projects supporting the education, research and service mission

Work Performed

Coordinate all planning and implementation activities related to the organization of special events on and off campus, locally, nationally and internationally. Indentify potential participants, manage invitations and responses, coordinate event logistics, prepare relevant documentations, and undertake necessary follow-up with participants and service providers.

Make significant contribution to the definition of contents/agendas, speakers, and research agendas for special projects.

Serve as a liaison with different Duke Schools, Centers and Institutes interested in cosponsoring special events or other special projects. Ensure that their special projects proposals are being fully evaluated and potentially implemented according to their expectations and the By-Laws.

Maintain close contact with organizations, foundations, private companies and others in order to indentify their specific interests in related issues and eventually invite them to support the activities of the organization.

Lead and coordinate the development efforts of the Institute; identify potential sources of funding; coordinate the writing of proposals; perform the necessary follow-up with donors and sponsors; work closely with relevant University development authorities.

Work closely with the director to develop annual, and multi-annual plans.

Prepare budgets and reconcile expenses.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelors degree or equivalent. Master's degree in relevant field preferred. Project management experience is required.

Experience

Work requires a min of four years progressive responsibility in development and special projects planning.
