Occupational Summary
This position will lead the golf operation to include managing the merchandising operation and membership department. Responsible for managing the outside and inside staff scheduling, golf team liaison, golf maintenance and grounds scheduling, and outside tournament host professional assignments.
Work Performed
Leadership and Planning Responsibilities:
Provide respected leadership and inspiration in making our departments the best in the operation. Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of these areas.
Project both short-term and long-term needs in these areas.
Provide considerable input into planning for major and minor systems for the operations: golf cars, driving range, bag storage, locker room facilities, starter and player assistants, tournaments, tee time administration, golf shop merchandise, display, and inventory, as well as all other major profit and cost centers.
Suggest minor to major changes in work methods and procedures to General Manager/Director of Golf to meet goals and program deadlines.
Assume responsibility for assuring that all bi-weekly employee time records are compiled for signature by the General Manager/Director of Golf.
Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules for all part-time positions in this area in conjunction with the General Manager/Head Golf Professional.
Gather and summarize data as requested by the General Manager/Director of Golf for special projects such as annual reports, space, supply, or equipment inventory, review of progress on initiated programs. Suggest, design, help implement improvements within the operation.
Golf Shop Duties:
Be knowledgeable in all duties of golf operations personnel as well as the ability to schedule as directed by the general manager.
Have a thorough understanding of the overall golf operation policies and procedures as well as Duke University policies and procedures.
Supervise the merchandise operation. Includes ordering, receiving, pricing and displaying of merchandise within the Duke Golf Club open to buy system.
Supervise and direct tournament operations (covers all events held at the club).
Supervise and direct the following departments: Bag Storage, Lockers, Club Rentals, Bag Rentals, and the Starter and Player Assistant operations.
Direct department heads in golf cars, driving range, bag storage, starter, and player assistant operations. May be assigned to manage these areas directly.
Record daily sales in merchandise and revenue book. Reconcile deposits with daily reports.
Each day, spread hospitality and good will among all members and guests. Assure that the golf shop is always neat, clean, and well organized, keep counter areas and displays attractive, neat and clean. Keep all miscellaneous Shop supplies current (scorecards, starting sheets, tees, pencils, etc).
Be available for any duties as assigned or directed by the General Manager/Director of Golf.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein as directed by the golf club general manager.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Minimum of a high school diploma.
Must have attained a Minimum of Class 'A' membership ranking in the PGA of America. Preferred PGA 'Certified' Member Ranking.
Experience
Requires a total of 10 years of golf management experience.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
