Occupational Summary

Support the Assistant Vice Provost in managing Institutional Research functions and staff, particularly at the level of individual school support within the institution. This role dovetails with the organizational granularity of space management support, in leading a cross-school team to integrate university space data, ensure its ongoing integrity support of space allocation decisions, and prepare and disseminate management reports about space needs and space utilization.

Work Performed

Represent the IR Office in liaising with individual Duke schools/programs to determine analytical and reporting needs requiring IR services and/or databases, particularly Tableau-based.

Supervise the Assistant Director for school support in automating school reporting needs, including maintenance and evolution beyond initial development as well as identifying new needs as they arise and integrating their support with the IR information capture and reporting structures.

Represent the IR Office in campus and external meetings at which the Assistant Vice Provost for IR can't be in attendance.

Lead the university space data working group with representatives from the University Architect's Office, Facilities Management and Design, Plant Accounting, the Office of Information Technology and the Administrative Development Group to maintain, further develop, and deploy in support of units across campus the space data management system for university buildings.

Coordinate and manage, based on priorities and shared responsibilities developed in the working group, integration of STAR and CAD data elements through the Archibus system.

Develop and implement business processes in schools and departments to distribute responsibility for maintaining specific space data elements, particularly the assignment of individuals to the spaces they use.

Coordinate access and training for end-users of space data management tools.

Facilitate the development of space utilization standards and their use in evaluation and planning.

Design standard reports to provide senior managers with information about space utilization relative to standards and about space utilization trends.

Prepare ad hoc analyses and reports to aid in the evaluation of current space utilization patterns and to plan for future needs.

Link space information to other forms of data, such as faculty and student body sizes and research funding and course enrollments.

Represent Duke in external benchmarking studies and efforts to identify and learn from best practices elsewhere.

Assist in other IR projects as requested.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Master's in accounting, business administration, statistical science, higher education or a related field. PhD in socail science field preferred.

Experience

Five years of progressive knowledge/experience of both statistical analysis and interpretation required with some experience in a higher education setting.
