Occupational Summary

This position is responsible for the conduct and operations of all internal audit activities of the University and Duke University Health System (DUHS). Reports to the chairs of the audit committees of the Duke University Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors of DUHS.

Work Performed

Ensure the internal audit operation is highly responsive to both the University and DUHS by managing and directing a bipartite organization, one part dedicated to the auditing of academic and research activities and the other dedicated to the auditing of the business processes and internal controls of a major health care system.

Work closely with the President, Executive Vice President, and Chancellor for Health Affairs, to provide direction and administrative resources.

Develop and direct a comprehensive program of independent internal auditing, enhancing risk identification, internal control, and compliance throughout the organization.

Implement a risk-based audit plan in consultation with senior management and the audit committees of the University and DUHS.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree is required in related field, Master's degree preferred

Experience

Requires at least 10 years experience as an auditor in the audit ad regulatory environment of both health care and higher education.

Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
