Occupational Summary

Develop, manage, coordinate, and participate in a variety of administrative, educational, and other activities related to multiple community-based programs that are focused on Durham and Community Affairs (DCA) five focus areas: Community, Health, Housing, Employment and Education; manage and coordinate strategy across programs and initiatives to cultivate and maintain systems that promote Duke's commitment to forging and sustaining purposeful partnerships. Prepare and manage related budgets; develop policies and procedures consistent with program objectives. Onboard and supervise staff and interns. Be able to work autonomously with minimal supervision but proactively keep senior leaders updated.

Work Performed

Manage operational and programmatic decisions on strategic focus area initiatives that have significant impact on the successful achievement of program strategies and objectives; develop, coordinate and advise staff regarding priority areas program policies. Manage and coordinate program development to achieve purposeful partnerships between Duke and the community.

Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative research techniques; investigate trends, make recommendations and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness.

Lead and coordinate focus area meetings. Make structure, process, and content recommendations to senior leadership. Manage funded proposal process and related administrative reports. Coordinate planning and implementation related to focus areas special events on and off campus.

Partner with colleagues across DCA, including housing, education, community health, community engagement and operations, research and advancement teams to align with Duke's community engagement priorities and yield SCIP aligned impacts. This includes facilitating strategic connections to Duke and Community partners.

Prepare recommendations for AVP on local and national trends and best practices in housing, health, employment, education and community engagement. Attend relevant meetings to analyze present and future landscape in housing, health, employment and education.

Coordinate public relations activities such as newsletters, promotional materials, publications, press releases, ads and fliers related to the five focus areas. community development. Work closely with the Senior Director of Communications to develop plans and schedules for the release of publicity materials. Support other DCA staff with Doing Good internal communications, including preparing related administrative reports and content.

Supervise staff, independent contractors, unit student workers or interns.

Respond to unit inquiries and requests according to established policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Position requires analytical, organizational and communications skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of three years management experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education AND/OR experience.
