Occupational Summary

Provide effective management over assigned major hospital projects to include responsibility and accountability for leading the planning, design and construction teams in delivering the Major Hospital Addition and Cancer Center projects in such a way to enhance Duke Medicine's ability to be a top healthcare provider.

Work Performed

Direct, plan and coordinate the review and development of Duke University Health System's Major Hospital Addition (MHA) and Canter Center (CC) capital projects. Be the MHA and CC project lead and report directly to the Director of FPDC and work closely with the Chief Operating Officer of Duke Hospital. Set and monitor overall project goals and objectives.

Assist Director of FPDC as liaison between the Medical Center/Health System Architect and outside architects and consultants retained for production of construction documents, construction supervision, and post occupancy evaluation; ensure construction documentation standards are established and met.

Negotiate and manage all contracts for the MHA and CC Projects, including all change order requests.

Review all significant MHA and CC project invoices.

Develop content for MHA and CC Management Group and Board presentations.

Lead the value engineering effort.

Identify issues before they become critical.

For the MHA and CC, serve as principal liaison between Duke University Medical Center/Health System administration, clinical departments, procurement department, finance department and other support departments.

Work with Duke Medical Center/Health System and Project Delivery Team to establish and manage a detailed Master Project Budge and Master Project Schedule. Overall responsible for delivering the Projects on time and within these budgets.

Ensure compliance with Duke University Medical Center/Health System standards of quality, building code requirements, and requirements of governmental regulating agencies through periodic or routine review of construction.

Lead the construction effort with local utility companies and the City.

Establish and maintain contact with outside organizations such as governmental agencies, professional organizations, and other educational and patient care institutions.

Direct various personnel functions for assigned staff including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work general requires organizational, analytical and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

A minimum of fifteen years of work in the Healthcare environment, including operational, administrative and project management of major capital projects.
