Occupational Summary

The role provides senior operational leadership for key strategic initiatives in clinical research for the Duke University School of Medicine (SOM). The individual in this position will report to the Vice Dean for Clinical Research and will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Research and other executive leaders to implement institutional initiatives in clinical research across the SOM and in partnership with other Duke University entities. The person will develop effective relationships with colleagues across the SOM, Duke Health and key academic, administrative and other stakeholders across Duke. The person will be responsible for the implementation of the clinical research strategic plans with other organizations to support the development of innovative programs or services. S/he will oversee, execute and monitor the progress for research initiatives and special projects and/or operational functions; to include service quality, timeliness of deliverables, regulatory compliance, and adherence to budgets.

Work Performed

Oversee the implementation of strategic plans for the organization's vision, and direction for clinical research and partnership with SOM units

Oversee the operations of the Clinical Research Coordinating Council responsible for clinical research strategic plans for the SOM

Liaise and partner with Duke Health, DukeForge, DHTS to develop and execute embedded health system research and other research/development initiatives

Assist in the development of strategic partnerships across the SOM and Duke Health or affiliated systems for clinical research

Oversee existing and proposed cooperative programs within the SOM

Monitor and analyze institutional effectiveness through evaluation tools and dashboards for clinical research.

Partner with other Duke leaders to advance SOM initiatives such as in data sciences, translational science, population health, outcomes research and health policy

Plan and provide oversight of a portfolio of special projects

Engage effectively with key stakeholders to ensure delivery of project outcomes

Plan and oversee special projects with other SOM leaders in Clinical Research, Translational and Data Science

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a business or healthcare related field. Prefer Master's degree or other post- graduate training in a clinical discipline or business/health care administration

Experience

Minimum of 10 years clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years of leadership/management experience sufficient to demonstrate subject matter expertise in clinical research strategic and programmatic development, as well as analytical, project management and organizational skills. Experience working in a highly matrixed organization. Academic medical center experience preferred.

Ability to organize teams and drive project progress. Ability to build relationships and focus teams toward common goals. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills required.
