Occupational Summary

Assist with responsibilities associated with research operations and support. Develop and implement initiatives and programs related to research support and operations. Provide oversight and direction of staff who provide research support and are engaged in research operations, to include: the supervision of management staff, forecasting hiring, development and review of processes, programming and services, input for budget development, and education and training of staff. Manage day-to-day research operations by providing oversight and direction of work for research support staff.

Work Performed

Process development and implementation - Develop and implement processes associated with research operations. Engage with stakeholders, technical experts, and regulatory guidelines during development, implementation and evaluation phases. Rollout processes with the research community.

Program & service development and implementation - Develop and implement processes, services, programs, or initiatives aimed to support the research community. Engage with stakeholders to understand the needs of the research community, and partner on solutions. Create the implementation strategy and oversee the execution of the program.

PI support/consultation - Develop, conduct and administer onboarding, support services, and/or training initiatives for principal investigators and the research community. Oversee services that assist the research community with important aspects of successful research, including high-quality grant and contract proposals, data management plans and tools, budget justifications, and regulatory aspects of research conduct.

HR - Direct staff personnel functions, including, but not limited to, time and attendance monitoring, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, space management and staff development assessments. Resolve problem situations related to staffing, onboarding, and management of current and future employees.

Internal Operations and Metrics - Determine the elements of processes and services that need to be collected or recorded in order to evaluate efforts and success. Ensure that staff are tracking their own efforts and documenting processes. Prepare operating reports and analyses reflecting progress, metrics, and appropriate recommendations and conclusions. Share with relevant stakeholders and evaluate any needed changes. Collaborate in preparation of research support budget based on research operations plans for growth.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor degree in a scientific, allied health or related field of study. Master degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum of seven years of experience with management of research staff, experience with grant proposals and budget development, experience with REDCap software implementation and data management skills. At least one year of experience in proven leadership and effective management of the work of a large staff. General knowledge of internal and external research compliance regulations.
