Occupational Summary

Manage day-to-day activities related to the adjustment/resolution of any and all accidents or claims submitted including general liability, automobile liability, automobile physical damage, D&O and property programs.

Work Performed

Manage day-to-day activities related to the adjustment/resolution of any and all accidents or claims submitted including general liability, automobile liability, automobile physical damage, D&O and property programs.

Receive and review all accident reports and associated documentation; follow-up as needed, consulting with the Assistant Director regarding circumstances of accident/incident if indicated.

Provide insurer with accident documentation; obtain and provide supplemental information as requested.

Coordinate investigation, working with independent adjusters as necessary. Negotiate settlements or deny claims. Process related invoices and settlements.

Serve as the initial point of contact for many risk management related inquires. Dispense advice and recommendations on institutional risk management policy and procedure as appropriate, or determines appropriate party to refer inquiry. Typical topics include vehicle policy and usage, safety issues, student activities, department activities/programs, and outside service agreements (insurance requirements).

Collect information and maintain databases that support the underwriting and insurance premium allocation process. Track exposure changes through contacts with community, update databases, and ensure changes follow through to allocation process

Assist the Assistant Director in the preparation of insurance renewal submissions and proposals and processes all invoices related to insurance renewals. Review all invoices for accuracy. Maintain insurance files and related database. With oversight of the Director, assist in the distribution and allocation of premiums or funding for all insurance/self-insurance.

Control and maintain records of departmental contract and budget expenditures, complete monthly reconciliations of budget accounts as well as 740-XXXX property claim accounts, informing appropriate staff of financial status of the various accounts.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of accounting principles usually acquired through a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Experience

Work requires two years of experience in an accounting, insurance, risk management or related setting to become knowledgeable of accepted practices involved in monitoring and managing insurance claims. Knowledge of or experience with commercial insurance and claims handling in insurance lines, such as general liability, automobile liability, automobile physical damage and property, is highly desirable.

Skills

Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills required.

Ability to work independently, prioritize and handle simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines.

Professional judgment, decision-making and discretion a must.

Demonstrated ability in electronic word processing, spreadsheet formatting and database management is essential.

Knowledge of or experience with commercial insurance and claims handling in insurance lines, such as general liability, automobile liability, automobile physical damage and property, is highly desirable.
