Occupational Summary

Lead developer and architect for systems development and design staff responsible for the design, creation, deployment, and maintenance of systems. Direct, plan, and develop information technology systems and procedures to meet its government and institutional compliance and to serve the Duke community.

Work Performed

Serve as lead developer regarding system design issues; represent design team in meetings; provide input in determining project scope; define design parameters of the project.

Coordinate beta testing, upgrades, and system enhancement projects. Review, adjust, and approve computer software and hardware maintenance contracts.

Determine standards and style for design capabilities to ensure a high level of design and coding efficiency consistent with current standards and trends

Develop, implement, and oversee various programs including, but not limited to, procuring necessary resources, screening ideas, and managing objectives and priorities to optimize effectiveness

Serve as main interface to programmers, instructional designers, and project staff.

Provide coaching and guidance to other designers and coders to ensure top-level design and efficient code that is consistent with the intentions of the designer and client.

Develop and recommend information systems policies and procedures. Collaborate with Director on team assignments, workflow, and scheduling.

Serve as liaison to departments for information technology services provided. Participate in technical committees and task forces.

Consult with other management staff concerning information systems capabilities and technology. Provide feasibility guidance and cost estimates. Oversee information technology projects to ensure on-time delivery.

Perform departmental personnel functions including, but not limited to, performance evaluations, hiring, rate recommendations, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Generally requires a Bachelor's or an Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education and/or Experience

Experience

Four years professional experience with full-cycle enterprise software development and support including data architecture design (transactional and warehousing), integration, and security. This should include 2 years experience with Web services, Win and Web form development, as well as experience with complex application security models.
