Occupational Summary
The Assistant Director will have responsibility for managing a functional area of the Institute with direct relevance for the Institute's strategic mission.
Work Performed
Identify, suggest, design and implement activities and programs that will ensure the functional area is fulfilling the Institute's mandate and promoting the Institute as an interdisciplinary entity.
Propose and manage the functional area's budget.
Supervise and help develop the staff hired to serve the functional area.
Report to the Institute Director or his designate and interact with all Institute staff and faculty to ensure the functional area is fully integrated in the Institute's overall goals and objectives.
Develop, implement and administer programs. Advise on the evaluation and implementation of programs. Assist the Director in developing program reports, proposals, and requests for funds. Develop budgetary recommendations. Assist the Director in identifying experiences/partnerships/collaborations outside of Duke.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Masters degree in an appropriate discipline preferred.
Experience
Four years of relevant experience required to include project/people management, and business, or education administration experience. Background managing complex projects required. Experience with international programs/partners/collaborations strongly preferred.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Skills
Outstanding initiative and ability to work independently and solve problems creatively; outstanding written and oral communication skills; ability to set priorities among multiple tasks; strong organizational skills; and demonstrated managerial skills.
