Occupational Summary

Duke University's North Carolina LiteracyCorps is a statewide consortium of AmeriCorps members working to build the capacity and impact of community and campus-based literacy programs. Members will provide direct service and/or capacity-building support to local education nonprofits and schools in Durham, Wake, Orange, Mecklenburg, and Craven Counties. The North Carolina LiteracyCorps is a program of Duke Service- Learning supports Duke's commitment to knowledge in the service of society. North Carolina LiteracyCorps members will contribute to the education and learning needs in local communities by providing teaching and tutoring support or capacity-building activities to enhance the ability of the placement organization to offer services.

Work Performed

The North Carolina LiteracyCorps Potential may include direct teaching, volunteer recruitment and training, developing new and enhancing current community partnerships, assisting with scheduling and coordination tasks, and gathering data for local and project evaluation. All work will be off-campus at participating community nonprofits and schools and could be in-person or virtual depending on location.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

High school diploma or GED

Experience

Previous education and/or experience working with young children and/or adult learners preferred.
