Bio:
Deann has worked in Nicholas School IT for 14 years, 13 of them as a Sr. System Analyst. During this time, Deann has had multiple opportunities to participate in a lead role with team members in planning and completion of projects which support faculty, staff and students in accomplishing the school's mission, to improve and expand services, or enhance security. She has at times supervised from one to all of her team members during her time in Nicholas School IT. She is active in the OIT Security Liaisons Group and is a liaison to OIT's Research Computing group.

Having been in Information Technology for 37 years, she has at various times worked with virtually every aspect of Information Technology. She has supervised a team of database programmers, been a Help Desk supervisor, worked for internet service providers, network equipment manufacturers, and printer manufacturers. She has done end-user and desktop support, enterprise-level server, firewall and datacenter management and support, built and supported multi-tiered application environments, worked with configuring and installing network routers and switches, built and supported numerous data storage and backup environments, built and supported websites and content management systems, and taught herself in the use and support of all major operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux), with the help of employer-provided training. She was a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer before coming to Duke to also learn Linux.

She is a published technical and creative writer who enjoys "staycation" time at her home in Durham with her two spoiled cats and far too much yard work.
