Bio:
Monique Harris is the Director for Multicultural Advancement. In this role, she oversees the management of
12 National Affinity Boards, it's 120+ board members, and two Assistant Directors. Ms. Harris is the
primary strategist for National Affinity Board programming, overall marketing, and growth. Her current
focus is to ensure that MCA is well positioned for a strong 2024-25 National Affinity Board Year by
onboarding/training two new assistant directors, establishing partnerships throughout the campus
community, solidifying policies and procedures, and establishing effective communication tools and
resources for board members. Ms. Harris views our National Affinity boards as pipeline for other
University board service and volunteer opportunities. Ms. Harris is entering her 19th year as a University
employee. Before beginning with MCA in March 2023, Ms. Harris was a Senior Program Coordinator with Alumni
Engagement and Development's Lifelong Learning program where she served as the editor of the monthly
Forever Learning Newsletter, spearheaded all Alumni & Faculty Author programming, and oversaw the Women's
Weekend Mentoring/Student programming as well as the Alumnae Authors Bookfair. Prior to joining Alumni
Engagement and Development, Ms. Harris managed Duke's Peer Tutoring Program for 6 years and before that,
she served 8 years as an Educational Consultant and College Counselor with the DukeTIP program. She
received both her undergraduate and Master's in counseling with an emphasis in higher education degree
from California State University, East Bay. In addition to her work within Alumni Engagement, she is also
a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and has a part-time therapy private practice.
