Bio:
An innovative communicator and manager, Sonya Sutton has more than 20 years of experience in project
leadership, content development and strategy, and team management across a wide range of health care topics.
She has extensive experience in managing federally funded research networks and has led communications for
the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Clinical Trials Data Coordinating Center, the HEAL Pain
Expanded Research Network (ERN), the NIA IMPACT Collaboratory, and NC Integrated Care for Kids (NC InCK).
She joined the Duke Clinical Research Institute in 2018 and in her role as Research Communications Project
Manager, she coordinates the work of team members in content development, website creation, graphic design,
social media, and develops the overall communications strategy for research projects and clinical trials.
Sonya holds a BSPH in Health Policy and Management and a MA in Journalism and Mass Communication with a
focus on Medical Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill. In her free time, she loves to travel with her husband and
two teenage daughters.
